During a half-day tour we visit the vineyards and cellars of two leading wine estates in one of the Southern Rhône’s premium wine villages – Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Sablet, Cairanne, or Séguret.

As we visit the scenic vineyards I explain the local appellation and the local wine-growing culture - in particular the notion of "terroir". I explain key elements of the winemaking process as we visit the cellars.

We taste four to five wines per estate during which I explain the tasting characteristics of the Rhône grape varieties, the ageing potential of the wines and the varying influences of the terroir and cellar methods on the wines that we taste.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is without doubt the most well known of the Rhône wine villages but it is just one of several top “cru” vineyard areas. The other premium Rhône wine villages also produce wines of extremely high quality and - being less well known – their wines can represent extremely good value for money.

At most of the estates we visit I supply a small selection of cheese with which to taste and appreciate the wines.

I would be delighted recommend some local lunch options before or after the tour. I book a eatery in advance of the tour or on the day of the tour.

Wine Estates that we visit

I have researched each wine estate that we visit – their philosophy, terroir, and wine-growing approach. This allows me to lead each guided visit and tasting, and point out what is interesting and genuinely different as we visit each estate.

I have in-depth knowledge of the wine region and its leading producers. I work with the Inter-professional Association of Rhône growers (Inter Rhône) and I provide Rhône wine consultancy services for importers. Please do not hesitate to request a specific wine estate if it is not listed on my Wine Villages & Estates pages.

What is the minimum group tour fee?
If you book a tour for two adults and no other guests join the tour (i.e. the tour ends up being private for the two of you) then the minimum group tour fee stated above would be the tour cost for the two of you.

If however, you are joined by at least one other guest (creating a group of three or more) then the per person fee would apply – e.g. a tour fee of 80 euros (2 x 40 euros) for two adults for Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Any Prior Wine Knowledge Required?

My tours cater for all wine-drinkers, from those you know very little about wine, to enthusiasts seeking to broaden their understanding. My relaxed and informal tours can be tailored to suit each individual, as introductory or as in-depth as you require.

If you are a veteran wine estate visitor and you have seen more than your fair share of wine-making cellars, I will tailor the tour accordingly!

Transport to the vineyards and the wine cellars

Village Meeting Point:
Tours commence from a designated meeting point in the first wine village. As we are normally small in number we group ourselves into one or two cars before visiting the vineyard parcels and the wine cellars. The travelling distances between the vineyards and the cellars are very short.

Own Transport Option:
You require your car to get to the first village meeting point. Wine Uncovered can collect up to 4 people from your residence free of charge if you are staying in or very local to the first wine vilage visited.

Chauffeured Option:
Wine Uncovered uses an air-con. minibus service that can collect up to 8 people from their residence and return them after the tour. Please contact me for a quote.
