Domaine de Cristia

cristia labels

Domaine de Cristia is run by the third generation of the Grangeon family – Dominique and her two brothers, Baptiste and Laurent Grangeon; The domaine was established by their Etienne Grangeon in 1942 who sold the wine in bulk. Baptiste was the first to commence bottling in 1999.

The domaine cultivates 58ha (145 acres) of vineyards, of which 14 ha are located in Châteauneuf du Pape. The terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape is predominantly based on the sandy area of Cristia (from which the domaine name is derived). This sandy north-east facing terroir is adjacent to the Rayas area and produces silky tannin wines with notable freshness.

Other smaller parcels are located in the St Georges (red sand and clay) and La Roquette (sandy, clay and stones) areas of Châteauneuf du Pape. The domaine also cultivates 8 ha under a Côtes du Rhône Villages designation which borders the terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape and thus produces wines of a pedigree surpassing that of the appellation. In addition, the domaine cultivates 12ha of Côtes du Rhône and 18ha of IGP which also border the terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape.

The domaine has been certified as organic since 2008 and continues to advance the most natural approaches in the vineyard and the cellar.
