Chateau de la Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Cadettes Red 2022

48% Grenache, 32% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, from the domaine's oldest vines

This cuvée comes from the domaine’s oldest parcels, mainly on sandy-clay soils scattered with rolled pebbles around the château, which impart a remarkable tannic quality.

Cuvée des Cadettes 2022 is perfectly in tune with the vintage, reflecting the refined style of Château La Nerthe. Deep, dark red with violet highlights, it offers an expressive nose of ripe black cherry and peppery spice. On the palate, Mourvèdre brings power, density, and freshness to Grenache’s blueberry and kirsch fruit, while elegant, precise tannins reveal the finesse of its ageing. A vintage with the potential to age for over a decade.

Producer profile

Château La Nerthe traces its origins to the Tulle de Villefranche family, who transformed a simple bastide into one of the Rhône Valley’s great estates, building the château, pioneering bottling, and sending their wines to the finest tables across Europe and even North America. After the phylloxera crisis, the property was revived by Commander Joseph Ducos, whose innovative grafting techniques restored Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s vineyards and helped establish what would become France’s first Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée, while also giving the appellation its enduring name. Today, under the stewardship of the Richard family, the estate has been restored and expanded, with a remarkable heritage of old vines and a full conversion to organic farming, certified since 1998. Château La Nerthe remains true to its legacy of excellence and innovation, preserving a unique heritage that is both viticultural and architectural.
