Domaine de l’Harmas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réserve de Felicien 2020

100% Very old Grenache

Spread over three plots of which one plot is on slopes, the soils consist of clay, limestone, sand and large rolled stones.

Matured for about 18 months in used demi-muids (600 litre) oak barrels, this cuvée demonstrates the marvels that can be achieved with old vine Grenache in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Wonderful, explosive nose of sweet red fruit and spice. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is rich with ripe fruit, spice and lovely finely-grained tannins and has a stupendous finish.

Producer profile

This wonderful little gem, cultivates 16 ha (40 acres) of vineyards with 3.5ha in Châteauneuf du Pape, 3 ha in Côtes du Rhône Villages, 9 ha in Côtes du Rhône. Nathalie is the fourth generation of the Fabre family but was the first to produce wines from their grapes when her and her husband built the cellar in 2000. They work together with their son, Romaud. The domaine name “Hamas” is the provencal word for place where nature can develop without intervention. The Fabres have long embraced organic viticulture and were certified Organic in 2012. All the wines display great fruit and freshness and because they are below the radar, their wonderful Châteauneuf du Pape wines offer fantastic value. The wines are fermented using the natural yeasts. The reds are fermented and mostly aged in concrete. The old vine “Réserve de Félicien” is aged in used demi-muids (600 litre) barrels. The Côtes du Rhône red is wonderfully fruity and fresh with a very good length. The Côtes du Rhône Villages carries more structure and depth.
