Chateau de la Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape White 2023

44% Roussanne, 41% White Grenache, 11% Clairette, 4% Bourboulenc

This cuvée is sourced from varied soils of clay-limestone, sandy clay, and sandstone scattered with the famed rolled pebbles. A rare natural spring on the estate, surrounded by centuries-old woodland, creates a microclimate—hot by day yet cool at night—ideal for producing white wines of strong character.

Pale golden robe with green highlights. This Châteauneuf-du-Pape White from Château de la Nerthe has a complex nose of citrus (lemon), fresh almond, and floral notes (honeysuckle, jasmine). The palate is fresh, with hints of citrus, pear, and seamlessly integrated oak. Savoury and vibrant, it lingers with a long, fresh finish. A lively wine to enjoy young or after a few years’ cellaring to reveal the full intensity of Château La Nerthe’s terroir.

Producer profile

Château La Nerthe traces its origins to the Tulle de Villefranche family, who transformed a simple bastide into one of the Rhône Valley’s great estates, building the château, pioneering bottling, and sending their wines to the finest tables across Europe and even North America. After the phylloxera crisis, the property was revived by Commander Joseph Ducos, whose innovative grafting techniques restored Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s vineyards and helped establish what would become France’s first Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée, while also giving the appellation its enduring name. Today, under the stewardship of the Richard family, the estate has been restored and expanded, with a remarkable heritage of old vines and a full conversion to organic farming, certified since 1998. Château La Nerthe remains true to its legacy of excellence and innovation, preserving a unique heritage that is both viticultural and architectural.
