Domaine André Berthet-Rayne Cairanne Castel Miero Red 2023

Majority Grenache with Syrah & Mourvèdre

Biodynamic grower. Clay, limestone. The average age of these vines is 65 years. The average yield is 30 hectolitres per hectare.

Destemmed harvest. Traditional fermentation in concrete vats. Half of the cuvée is aged for one year in demi-muids and the other half for one year in concrete vats.

The nose is instantly explosive with a strong presence of berries and spices. After aeration, the red fruit notes become even more pronounced, then sweet spices such as cinnamon and clove dominate, with black fruits and a slightly woody touch completing the aromatic palette. A beautiful complexity.

The palate does not disappoint; from the attack, suppleness dominates. The aromas of sweet spices prolong. Very beautiful tannins bring velvety smoothness and give relief in the middle and end of the palate. The finish is long and beautifully balanced, without heaviness. This very delicate and smooth wine can be enjoyed now and for up to 10 years, if you prefer spicy notes and fruits such as prunes to dominate.

Producer profile

Biodynamic grower. The history of the estate began with André’s great-grandparents, Charles and his wife, who cultivated 6 hectares of vines at the end of the 19th century. In addition to the vines, they also cultivated a few plots of olive trees and agricultural land, typical of farms at the time. This diversity laid the foundations for a wine-growing business that the family, over the generations, has continued to develop and enrich with expertise passed down from father to son and now to daughter. The estate now cultivates 31 hectares of vineyards. An agroforestry project will be implemented, aiming to enrich biodiversity and strengthen the sustainability of their viticultural practices.
